Pollard a Weeping Birch

Hello, I have a weeping birch which is getting too heavily spread.

Is it possible to pollard a weeping birch?

Thanks

John.

    I wouldn't - it'll look horrid image

I'd rather remove it and plant something more suitable for the spot.

  • many thanks for your response and I appreciate your comments.  However, I would still like to know if it would be possible to pollard a weeping birch tree annually to keep it within it's allotted space (height and width)?

  • This gives you some sort of idea of the effect - Found this picture on the net of a pruned weeping birch http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2803/4267452439_83fc69fd82_b.jpg

They don't come much uglier than that do they

If you're going to do that I'd remove some of the branches back to the top of the trunk, it might not look so bad then.
