Red Hot Pokers

I have 6 large Kniphofia Caulescens in a group and they have produced great pokers until this year? All of them have new growth in the middle but no poker stems.

Do they rest for a year?

Each year I leave them to over winter with no care except in spring taking off the spent leaves from the wooded stems....

Any advice would be greatly received

It has been an odd year for many things due to unusual temperature and rainfall patterns.  If we have a late warm spell you may still find they throw up flowers.  If not, a feed with fish, blood and bone next spring should see them right. image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Many thanks Bob will keep my fingers crossed and give them a good spring feed.

    Have a good bank holiday

  • they may need dividing - you can do this in the autumn.
