Sorry for the confusion, silly pic really but was trying to give an indication of size. A hellebore having now looked it up is something to look forward to very much, there must be 5 or 6 of them in the garden.

Oops - it was the shrub next to the hosta - sorry. Do you mean the plant to the left of the hosta DD?
Could it be hellebore?

Looks like a hellebore Lesley if that is the plant DD means.
The one to the left of the hosta is a hellebore as Lesley said
