slugs & beer traps
I am having huge success with the beer traps I have put in the greenhouse to despatch alcoholic slugs. Can I empty the dead slugs & leftover beer into the compost bins? Incidentally, I have also found Venus Fly Traps to be invaluable in the greenhouse for dealing with smaller pests.

I wouldn't sandyr - yeast, alcohol and slime in your compost.... gross. There may well be good scientific reasons why its either a very good or very bad idea... but mainly? Gross. And me and OH used to do nightly torchlit slug patrols with saucepans of salty water and wooden kebab sticks. So if I think you're gross - you're gross.

Thanks for responding, Auntie Betty. This is the first year I have really made an effort to get rid of the nasties; due to this wet weather they are overrunning the greenhouse. I posted the question because I don't know what to do with all the gunge (I have considered chucking it over the fence to the field at the back!) There are live slugs & snails etc in the compost bins so they must remain there when they're dead but of course they haven't been mixed with Tesco's cheapest lager. How did you dispose of your nasties when you had skewered them?
If you throw them in your council garden waste bin, the recycling process should be ok, due to the way they make compost out of garden waste, however, in your own composting bin, you havent the industrial size of being able to do this Sandyr.
Dig a small hole at the back of a border etc and bury them. They will naturally break down and feed the soil in a matter of weeks.
They might be nice in a stir fry
Seriously though, I am lucky not to have much of a slug problem except in the Hosta bed so I had this (photo below) which was left from when we had chickens and it's brilliant as I can sink it into the ground to the level of the opening and fill with beer and with the top on the dog doesn't get it and the rain doesn't dilute it and you can just lift the lid and dispose of the contents when you want.
It is roughly 15cm across by 23cm high and made of plastic.
