Courgette leaves covered in mold / white powdery mildew

Hi All 3 of my courgette plants are covered in white powdery mildew. Please can anyone tell me why this has happened and how I can prevent it in future? Total veg growing novice hereimage An X

Hi as007, dont worry, they all get it, it dosent do any harm, just looks a bit dodgy! There have been other threads asking the same, its quite a shock when you see it for the first time, you havent done anything wrong image

Is there anything you can do to prevent the mildew? My bloody lupin and panseys got same too image(((
  • Water at the base of the plants in the mornings. Don't get the leaves wet. Cut off any really bad ones. On a warm day you can spray with cooled green tea and that does help a bit. Also make sure there is good circulation of air around the plant by ensuring it has it's own space and if necessary cutting back on its leaves if it has too many!

it is normal though, so you're just trying to manage the problem.

Preventing mildew-Not in a summer like this, sorry image

Ive heard of spraying with a milk solution, but its probably not worth it now. I was shown to water by- water as much as you think it needs, then do it again! Basically if the crops are in the ground, you cant water too much, some times i just leave the hose trickling for hours, i think a damn good soak does them good image

I would probably put a tray/container underneath, it should help to retain water, courgettes are greedy, overwatering would be difficult at the moment, image
  • I find on mu Atlantic giant pumpkins regular foliar feed of seaweed extract helps prevent powdery mildew and to stop or slow a small infection spray with a mix of milk and water at 1:9 mix. Hope this helps
