Elephant Hawk Moth

Hi all, I'm new around here, I introduced myself yesterday on the fruit & veg forum.
Just thought I'd pop in here to post this. I came across this handsome beast this afternoon when dividing my chives.
I expect most of you will have seen one, but here he is anyway
I released it into the wilderness at the bottom of the garden

very handsome
Lovely - thanks for sharing
Here's what it'll grow into, was on my laurel hedge, last year. Photo doesn't do it justice, they are beautiful.
and quite rare, I believe.
Not rare here
Terrific pix! I think they look quite sad as caterpillars - sad little faces
Am I right in saying they don't get as far north as me nut? Do we even get them in Scotland at all?
I don't know if they come up to you Fairy. I'll check my moth book
Thanks nut - of course, if I wasn't so idle, I could look it up myself....
