Dragonflies

We have a tremendous amount of dragonflies in our garden this year. We don't have a pond tho. They appear in packs and are very much larger than the usual dragonfly visitors we see. Has the weather had anything to do with it? There was one recently on me that I swear was 8 inches long.

We had our first one in the garden yesterday - now the season's started we'll see lots - we're very close to the River Yare and the UEA Broad which is well known for it's dragonflies
maybe from someone else s pond or river nearby. don't get them muddled with damsel flies.
Here's one in my garden earlier today.
Hi, seakale, last week I had this zooming around the garden
lucky to get it in focus. After whizzing around again it finally settled at my feet, at least 6 inches long
an emerald green, irridescent, beautiful
Good photo Mark 499,
my first shot, (as it was on the wing so to speak)
you can just see the lovely wing span.
Need very hot weather to see them again here

Unless my eyes were deceiving me, from the rugosa/holly shrubbery came a swoosh, of something smaller than a bird-bigger than a bee, with the zooming flight of the green dragonfly.
Light too dim, 05.45, but sure it was. Is it possible?
Lovely pictures of dragonflies here
