Rosemary
Hi
I used some rosemary twigs that were bought from the farmer's market, plannning to make cuttings. Firstly, they seem to be fresh. Then I was away from home for two days. They were stored in the fridge. I know that if seeds are put in the fridge/freezer, they germinate earlier because they think winter (the coldness of the fridge) just ended and it's time to sprout. I'm not sure if it works for cuttings though. Anyway, they seemed fresh enough. So i made cuttings out of them and put them in little containers with potting soil.
I don't know if they'll grow. Any advice? Also, should i wait until next spring to put fertilizer (i learned to put it in spring)? Or should I put fertilizer now because of the not-very-freshness of the rosemary?? Thanks.

Hi Olivia Tang - I've not grown rosemary from cuttings but see no reason why either softwood or semi-hardwood cuttings should not root with warmth and humidity at the moment and if successful can be planted out next year.
I wouldn't use anymore fertilizer than is already in the compost until you can be sure they have rooted - others may have different views but I think that Rosemary is not a hungry plant.
I have some rosemary grown from seed earlier this year with about 3 sets of leaves - so very small - will be overwintering them and thinking of planting out next Spring - if they survive !!
Oh you have got mixed up-do not put cuttings in the fridge -as a temporary measure inside a sealed polythene bag-they either will root or they wont-do not fertilise yet there is enough food in the compost
Some seeds need the cold treatment but not cuttings.
