Anyone know what this is?

Hi, Can anyone identify this? It's about 9 feet high and I'm not sure of the spread as it's in the middle of other shrubs in a friends garden.

    Are they the flowers of a smoke bush, Cotinus coggygria? Difficult to see its leaves in the photo.
