Am I looking after weeds?

Could someone identify the plans in the centre front of my photo? If they are weeds, I have a lovely dahlia I could put in their place!

They may be asters. They're not a weed I know. Though some of the asters are a bit weedyimage

I think you're both right! Thank you so much......I had forgotten that I had a few bedding asters last year. They flowered brilliantly but were only about nine inches tall. I didn't think they would have survived the Winter...obviously these are going to be a lot taller. Do you think they will be any good? I am still tempted to use my lovely bright dahlia.

Hard to say whether they'll be any good. What I know as bedding asters are really callistephons, (that doesn't look right, but something like that). These are not them. and you're right, they wouldn't survive the winter.
