Earlier in the season I had this vine growing by itself with sky-blue flowers like a previous Ipomoea, but with star-shaped blooms (not round) and foliage at times lobate (and not heart-shaped like those of the morning glory). The fruit looked different as well.

Is it a new species or just a reversion of the original climber?

My guess would be a seedling from something you had last year, reverting to something closer to the original species. It's lovely, worth saving seed, might be repeated.

  • its a variety of morning glory which is in the same family as that white bindweed everyone hates even if it is pretty. There are many different coloured ones .keep the seeds they look good.image

I have found out this is very similar to Ipomoea nil, a wild climber used in

morning glory hybrids; probably a reversion, really like nutcutlet said.
