how to encourage a camellia to 'bush out'

hi, I purchased a camellia (silver anniversary) online in the spring (either after it had flowered or the plant is too young to have flowered this year). it is planted up against a fence which has a mature honeysuckle trailing across it.

As the honeysuckle left a bare patch of fence under the trailing stems, i plonked in the camellia and now want it to bush out but not fussed about it gaining height.

how can i prune to encourage this and when is the best time to do it?

any other suggestions for plants that would sit nicely under a honeysuckle in a shallow border are welcome as i'm not sure the camellia was the best choice! its also in partial shade if that is relevant.
