Not terribly au fait with the plants of Sicily, but could it be a jacaranda?

Yes it was Jacaranda but unfortunately it will not tolerate our climate so it would be foolish for me to pursue it further but thanks again.

Sorry but could someone help me further.I have an infestation of a white sticky grub type substance which is on the underside of the foliage on a Hydrangea bush I have in the front garden. Some leaves are completely covered with it and I have noticed they turn yellow and just drop off. I have been carefully wiping  it off but there is to much of it.Can anyone identify it for me and offer a solution please?

Sounds as if it could be one of the scale insects - have a look here http://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=224
