Gardening on Bedrock

I have a garden which is founded on bedrock. There is only an inch or so of top soil in some places, and deeper pockets spread out randomly. Mainly covered with lawn and moss. It is also on a slope and is very poor draining. There doesnt seem to be enough depth in the right places to dig a soakaway or anything so my question is, what plants like shallow, wet conditions?

I would be more inclined to switch to container gardening rather than coping with those conditions-that leaves you open to a whole load of options

That is if you hadn't considered or are doing that already?

  • Thanks, we have started with more containers.

Have a look and see what grows in the surrounding area. It might give you some ideas. Wild plants often have garden-worthy relatives.
