Nasty seed ID please

NetfellaNetfella Posts: 54

Hi folks,

My dog had some seeds in her fur the other day. They look nasty and was making her itch. I'd like to avoid where these come from but I've walked her various places so not sure how. I'd really appreciate it If anyone can shed light on what might have produced them.

Cheers

James

There are quite a few plants that distribute their seeds like that. Geum urbanum for one. That could be the geum but hard to tell.

Another good one to distribute that way is goosegrass/cleavers/sticky willies. Little round seeds. We had a cat that used to pick those up then try to get upstairs and remove them in a leisurely fashion on our bed

Thanks, I'm pretty sure they are the wood avens seeds. I'll have to look out for them when I'm next on a walk. She's had burrs from goosegrass and thistles which are a real pain to get out but these are new to me and really go deep against the skin. Thanks again for the ID.

Don't tip them out in the garden. You'll start another lot going. image
