Pear Tree Mystery Leaves

Hello, we planted a Pear Tree last year and some new shoots are growing from the base. They are different leaves to the main plant. Is it something to do with the grafting process? Should I cut them back? I’m not sure what to do about it.

Thanks

Rob

They are suckers growing from the rootstock-remove them or they will take over.

Is the graft union above the soil level?

Thanks, that was my thoughts but wanted to be sure. By the graft union, I presume you mean where they are joined? I couldn't be sure. The shoots are coming out of the soil so I guess its below the soil. Should it be above or below?

Above-you should have planted it at the same level it was in the pot if it was container grown.

I am not quite sure from looking at your picture where the graft union is
