Dragonfly ???

 I have lots of cuckoo spit and read that damselflies eat the mummy insect, hoping this is one or it also eats whatever lays the eggs ??.

Ah, you are right, just googled!  Didn't know they were also the dreaded leatherjacket - but I don't have a lawn so hope am ok and it just provides food for the birds x thanks
