hi all i am new to this site so forgive me if i go wrong, i have a canna lily that wont flower, the leaves look very healthy, strong and tall but no flowers, i live near carlisle so not the warmest of places
To get cannas to flower we need a long hot Summer-the last two have been disappointing to say the least-hopefully next year
You may not be doing anything wrong-location obviously is not ideal-but you will need to lift them and keep under cover over the winter and keep those fingers crossed for 2013.
thanks for that, it has been terrible weather the last two summers, gets very wet and windy up here in silloth, i have had it polytunnel for the last month hoping that would help it along but no joy, will have fingers and toes crossed for 2013 failing that i will stick to my hosta,s which thrived this year
my cannas have not flowered either so you are not alone last year they flowered lovely so am going to dig them up this year and put them in my shed i was talking to the gardeners over paignton zoo and none of there cannas have flowered either
Hi, I grew cannas for the first time this year and they flowered - even though I'm in the extra rainy North West. I followed a tip I saw - GW? but it was Colin from the RHS. I started them off in pots ion the kitchen - but had he suggested added fish, blood, bone to the planting hole. Still flowering now . It may be a fluke! but give it a go next year
I start mine off in pots in my greenhouse (unheated, but bubble wrapped) in April and plant them out in the sunniest part of my garden in June, which seems to work, but I am in the South.
wow did you see gw last night he dug his cannas up chopped off the leaves and just put them in a old compost bag as they were and wrapped them up,so here goes
