Asparagus

Any asparagus growers out there?  I have a tip to make the most of your crop.  When you prepare the tips for cooking, don't discard the woody stems at the bottom.  Pop them into the freezer and at the end of the season you will have enough for a nice asparagus soup. You can liquidise it to get rid of the stringy bits.

Gosh Sheila, that's a good idea. Only problem we have is a very poor harvest for the 2nd year running - on plants that are 4 years old as well.

Asparagus is not very nice after it has been frozen IMO.

  • Agreed i would not want to use it as a traditional veg after its been frozen but as a basis for soup its fine.  You still get the flavour and it goes towards your 5 a day.
