vine weed

I hope someone can help us with this,

The problem is its growing all over my raised veg beds, every day i have to go and pick it all out, and its starting to grow over the grass, is there anyway of getting rid of this stuff, it looks a bit like ivy and grows so so fast.

Any help thanks.

    i have just spoke to the guy who told me what it was and yes its bindweed, sorry about that, thats why i couldnt find out anything about it, ha ha

    That article seems to cover all the controls-it is a devil to get rid of but can be done-keep attacking it with whatever means are suitable.

    There's no point in cutting the tops off bindweed - it will re-grow a fresh plant from any scrap of root that is left.

    Put canes next to the growths and train the weed up it. Once it is several feet tall, carefully remove the stake and put the growth in a bin bag, and spray it thoroughly with a glyphosphate-based weedkiller and leave it to die in the bag. You will need to do this for a while, because you'll need to kill all the roots.

    what a top idea, i cant do anything with the veg beds, so ill keep pulling it out of there, but will get some killer and bag it up.

    You can now buy a roundup gel that you rub on the leaves-that might solve the problem on the veg beds.

    gel worked a treat, a few still comining thru, but if i keep at it hopefuly it'll all be gone for next year.

    My garden is also full of bindweed.  Over the past 8 years I have painstakingly been out there almost every day in the summer digging it out.  You have to go down as deep as you can, it is unbelieveable how far down these roots go.  But I am winning, it seems to be giving up, the roots are getting smaller and smaller and there is no where near so much now.  I will see if I can get the Roundup Gel over here as it is very difficult to spray close to other plants.  When I mix the normal round up I put some into a jar and use a small paint brush to just get it onto the leaves of the bigger perennial weeds.
