Plants for shaded balcony! HELP

Hello, I have a large balcony area on my house which is need to fill with plants, shrubs etc but I have no idea how to go about it. The reason being is that during the winter months the balcony recives very little direct sun light and is quite a damp place, and during the summer each part of the balcony received sun light but not constant throughout the day. The back of the balcony recieves morning sunlight and the front evening sunlight. I would like to add flowers plants and shrubs in pots that will remain in that location throughout the year, but appreciate that most plants need direct sunlight etc etc. Could I please have some advice with regards to what plants would be suitable for winter and summer and what plants would be suitable all year round. What combinations of plants would look well together. Many thanks.
