Gloxinia

By my own admission I am rubbish at keeping house plants.  I have two which defy my attempts to kill them and goodness knows how they survive.  I was given a Gloxinia as a present a month ago and it had one bloom, two almost open and many buds.  Since then I have kept it inside, out of direct sunlight and only watered when it felt dry - about once a week.  The original bloom eventually went and the two others came and are just about gone but all the little buds have turned brown and gone.

Hubs says it was doomed from the start but I would love to rescue it.  Any thoughts?

If it's just the buds that have gone, and the leaves still look healthy, then I wouldn't worry. The chances are that the plant didn't like the move - given time, it should settle down and flower again.

Thanks Alina - the leaves look good - no sign of pests.  I guess these plants are nurtured in greenhouses then off to the shops to fend for themselves and then into our homes for some more abuse.  No wonder I can't keep houseplants image

You're quite right - whenever I buy a plant in flower it drops its buds as soon as I get it home, and I have over a hundred houseplants.

    You're really not alone image
