This is the third year for my Aliums. Previously they had large magnificent haeds, but this year they are very small, any suggestions why?

Are you in a drought area? If so, they may have dried out in the hot March that we had. Providing that we get normal rain this year they should improve next year. To help them along, keep them watered and fed after flowering.

Er, hate to disagree, but the time to keep Alliums fed and watered is before they flower. Once the flowers appear, the leaves have done their job and are beginning to die away for the Summer rest. So to keep the flowers big and bold, start feeding as soon as the 'noses' show through the soil in late winter.

It is a question on knowing ones onions I suppose!

Actually you are correct in a sense in that once the flowers have finished, it would be a good time to dig up the dormant bulbs, split them up and replant in refurbsihed soil.

For the last two years only a couple of my alliums came up, and I have several clumps of different varieties around my garden. The leaves came but very few flower stems.  The leaves are up now but only one has a flower stem developing. This is on one that I moved after digging it up accidentally.  Makes me wonder if I should move them all?  Any advice please? I've noted the advice further up the thread about feeding them so I'll try that.

I'm on my first year of alliums, so excited about it.  What do you feed them Berghill ?

I've got 25 Alliums currently growing in pots and I've only spotted one bud on one of these so far lol Getting impatient for them to flower lol
