Weeping trees dragging on the ground

I have two weeping trees as above which are constantly 'sweeping' the bark mulch around and under them on to the lawn. Will I cause problems for the trees if I cut the ends of the stems off?
If it should be OK, when is the best time to do it please?

It'll be fine. Trim the cherry in June/July when it is dry and sunny; the cotoneaster can be done at any time.
Many thanks, I'll do that. I'm fed up with having bark all over the lawn and a bare patch of weed suppressant under the trees!
