Broad Beans

Sowed Super Aquadulce and The Sutton, all about 10cm high but the plants do not look to good, the growing tip leaves seem to be curling up and on closer inspection on opening up the leaves I found a small weevil type bug? is it a lost course and should I start again some where else on the allotment?

I'd spend some time gently unfurling the leaves and squishing the bugs - are they aphids?  If so a spray with a weak soap and water solution should help.

Thank you, I'll try it but I'm not too hopeful that it will work.

No, as Michael says, a quick moving insect.  I is stripy brown and crunches when crushed.  More and more of them and by searching them out I probably damage buds and broke a plant  yesterday.  V frustrating!!

Sounds like the Pea & Bean Weevil, although the adults aren't usually around this early - probably down to the mild winter.  http://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=800

Anyone got blackfly on theirs yet?  Or chocolate spot?  I usually get both but no sign of either yet.  Keeping fingers crossed (which  makes weeding difficult) and have already been harvesting my overwintered Aquadulce - the earliest ever!
