Beetle or Chafer eating a Kiwi Plant

Hi all,

We have just had to dig up and bring our Kiwi back from the allotment. It has been down there for about 3 weeks, but something has been really attacking it. It looked to be a bronze coloured little beetle. Can't see anything exactly like it on the web, but it seems to be chafer of somekind.

We found about 10 on the plant, it has really eaten up the plant - we realised this afternoon it was either dig it up or lose it over the next week. The slugs had started to have a go too which shows that it wasn't happy (we don't really have much trouble with slugs, thanks to the toads) .

Anyone else had any experience like this?
