Laying a brick slip boarder

Hi,

I have some brick slips which I am going to use to lay an edging to my boarders. I know I should be digging out a trench to lay the slips in but I am unsure what I should be laying the slips onto, can I just use sand or should I use sand and cement, do I use sand and then use a product to put in the gaps ? As I,m sure you can gather I am a bit of an amateur so any advice gratefully received.

I'm guessing that these are quite thin - 2"-2.5" - in which case they would probably be best laid on concrete as if they were tiles.  They won't be as strong as paving slabs or stone and may break if they're not on a solid foundation.  Leaving gaps between the slips will give you planting spaces (or weed growing spaces!)

is it a boarding house? I'm lost ! why do they need bricked in?

Thanks St Ephie for your reply, the slips are quite thin so we did think concrete would be better but good to have it confirmed !

What's a brick slip? Never heard of them!

Hi Landgirl, A brick slip is like a tile that looks like a brick they are only about 1.5cm's thick and are usually used for facing up walls I managed to get 200 for £15 so I'm going to use them to make an edging to my border (see Hostafan 1 I can do it if I try x !)
