Advice about magnolias needed.
I've been wanting to grow magnolias in my garden for quite a while however the ones I have seen around so far grow to be quite large specimens. Are there any magnolias that are small varieties? Or are there any varieties that can be grown in pots in order to control growth?
In my previous house I had a type of cherry blossom tree which I controled the size and shape of by pruning it (quite heavily). However I am not sure if this can be done with magnolias and whether it affects their flowering or not?
Ideally I would like the magnolia tree to be around 2-2.5m high (8ft) with a crown diameter of around 6ft.

Magnolias react to pruning by producing lots of unproductive 'water shoots.'
