olive tree

Any tips for looking after my 5 year old olive tree. The leaves have gone yellow and are dropping off, they also have black spots with a yellow halo around them. What am I doing wrong.

It may be over-wet - is it in a particularly soggy piece of ground?

No I still have it in a pot, I have recently re-potted in John Innes No.3. Not sure if that is ok. It was quite wet when I re-potted. Maybe I should plant it in my garden instead?

JI should have been fine. I would leave it where it is and make sure that it doesn't get too wet again. Hopefully, it will put out fresh shoots in time.

Have you got the pot freestanding or is it on a saucer/ drip tray?

I've got the pot on 3 terracotta legs. Hopefully it should drain ok. I'll see how it goes in the new soil. Thanks for your comments

I have 2 olive trees in pots and I always find they loose leaves at this time, but I have new growth just starting to come through. The others are right, they don't like to be too wet, when you think we're they originate from. Good luck.

That sounds promising, thanks Janet. There is a big difference between here and Greece that's true. It doesn't help that it hasn't stopped raining for weeks, but on the positive side my other garden plants are thriving. I'll keep a close eye on it though to see if it improves. Cheers.
