This is Jasminum polyanthum? I don't think that's  very hardy , you might need to pot anyway

  • Thank you nutcutlet yes it is, I have conflicting info on temperature range going from half hardy to 5c once established, but it is the alkalinity bit as well as alkaline soil I would also  be watering with alkaline water, and what size pot would be best for long term growth ?

Jasminium polyanthum - the one usually sold as an indoor plant, especially at Christmas, will def grow outside in the London area, against a wall facing morning or afternoon sun.  And it grows very well!   Perhaps it would be difficult in a cold densely shaded place but it can stand cold but below freezing might be a problem.  It is native I believe to Southwest China, where they have cold months Jan-March but not below freezing, then then the rains during spring/summer and high humidity.  When the plant is mature and 10' t it will all and 10' wide it will survive just about anything in London.  It also propogates itself by layering.

WHAT I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW IS HOW I CAN FORCE ONE TO FLOWER INDOORS DURING THE WINTER?  I BOUGHT IT IN FLOWER LAST WINTER, HAVE RE-POTTED IN TO LARGER CONTAINER, IT IS NOW OUTSIDE ON WINDOWSILL JUST COMING IN TO BUD (END MAY), BUT I WOULD LIKE TO BRING IT INDOORS FOR A WINTER FLOWERING - DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO DO THAT?
