what sort of a tree was that ?

image

Hi.

Can a any one tell me what sort of a birch tree this is. I have decided to have a birch in my garden and came across this one on my dog walk today and I love it. The bark looked beautiful in the sun and the blossom was so pretty.

Mind you theres me calling it a birch when it may not be !

Thanks in advance

There's no photo Sara but anything with blossom isn't a birch, they have little catkins

    Hello Sara,

Not a birch with all that blossom.  Some kind of cherry or plum possibly.  You will get more ideas from other forum folks soon.  A very pretty tree though.

  • Sorry nutcutlet, I could blame my computer but that would be a lie !!

Oh, I thought it was a birch because of the bark. Hopefully with a picture someone could enlighten me. X

The bark has a hint of the lovely rich cinnamon  colour of the Prunus serrula and the flowers are right, but they usually have much more colour in the trunk image

I agree, almost certainly a cherry.  If you can get near enough to smell the blossom, cherries hardly ever have a noticeable scent but plums usually do smell 'flowery'. image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Thanks everyone, when I walk the dog up there next I will have a sniff !
