How do you get rid of these disgusting things?
Hi!
Has anyone else been inundated with these vile grubs? I've had them two years running in my pots, loads of them, fat and up to 2 inches long. And I do mean LOTS of them: 24 found today in the space of 10 mins in one medium size pot! I've tried the chemical stuff but it clearly doesn't work: I followed instructions, but how much are you supposed to spray on? And is there any other method that works better? I gather from another site that nematodes don't work on these enormous things, only on the smaller ones....

Can you just pick them? They are only June Bugs?
The adult beetles only lay eggs for a week or so, so once you picked them no more come back.
Are you sure they're cockchafer grubs - they're usually found in open fields and they take several years of living underground to mature and grow into cockchafers.
I love to find adult cockchafers in my garden - I know the grubs eat plant roots, but the adults are such fascinating creatures.
Could they possibly be vine weevils? You're much more likely to find them en masse in pots.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
You say how much do you spray - with ground-dwelling creatures you don't spray, you drench the soil by pouring the mixture over it.
