Lost lilac

Lost Lilac

Following the recent wet and windy weather we have lost a mature lilac that was planted along our garden wall. What can we replace it with that will give decent height (and privacy), some interest in terms of colour/blossom and won't drop lots of leaves?

Are there any shoots that have come up from it ... Or where you looking for something a bit more instant than that? I love lilac it reminds me of sitting in the tree in our front garden as a little girl reading. I've just liberated a few seedlings from my auntys garden which can from that original tree.
