Plagues of caterpillars each year on our geraniums

Each year we get a plague of caterpillars on our geraniums...they look like thin little black or green things...think they develope into white butterflies...
they absolutely massacre everything and it is dreadful...can pick a few off but too many plants And too many caterpillars...am thinking of changing my plants this year and trying something else..
have had this plague for the last two years...anyone got any ideas???

A plant change is probably a good idea. Growing a lot of the same thing for years can lead to a build up of pests

Do you mean Pelargoniums? If so I found the angel pelargoniums didn't get eaten. The leaves aren't as soft.
You can spray for caterpillars, though I find going out in sunny days and at dusk and collecting them works wonders. I normally squish them or through them over to next doors veg plot
They are just zonal geraniums fleurisa....but I will bear what you said in mind...sounds like a good idea....
Blairs i can can still pick any off if there are not too many and use spray......I appreciate everyones feed back.....thanks
If you have a lot of caterpillars on the plants then it is a yuck job to pick them off as sheer numbers is quite sickening. I collected 60 off just 2 plants last spring. My kids fed them leaves - I put them in the council compost bin when they slept and they went off to a better place. Provado or Bayer have a spray that kills off pests like caterpillars - whatever the stuff that kills off Lupin greenfly.
