What Tree is this
Hi
I have a tree in my garden that has a dark brown trunk leading up to furry branches that all point skyward, the new growth is kind of red.
The previous gardener seemed to have hacked at cutting it back in places so can someone help in advising me about how, when, where and how much I can do in pruning this tree please.
Thanks

As has been said Phil, try and post a pic. If we see it we WILL identify it for you.
Hi Guys,
I've found out what it is, it's a Staghorn Sumac and thanks for your help.
The previous occupant had cut it quite bad on the one side so yes it has grown lop-sided lol but that too was because he had a few unwanted bushes on the one side namely a Laurel, Hawthorn, and two varieties of Conifer (one was the type where it knits inside itself) all removed now in order to open up the garden, and now it looks impressive, I've read online about them and have already pruned all dead wood off and removed any suckers, am thinking that I might leave it this year and prune it back ready for next, then again I might get a Pro in as it's about 15' high now lol
