Half a lilac shrub & pigeon damage ?
Last year my lilac shrub / tree got attacked by pigeons where the leaves were shredded on one half of it. This year I've noticed that the area that was left alone by pigeons is fully in leaf, where the other half seems to be struggling to grow leaves.
It isn't totally dead as some branches are still bendy, should I cut it back a bit and let the stronger stems grow or should I leave it and see if it dies or grows.
Anyone heard of this before. Just seems strange it was where the pigeons attacked it last year.

That sounds very odd Peanuts.

That sounds really wierd. Nut, is it possible that they were eating a pest off the plant or something?
Pigeons eat anything. Everything
I would have expected it to recover though, even if the pigeons had another go this year

Is it possible that they killed a part and that induced coral spot? Just a thought.
Thanks Ryan, I've looked up Coral spot and haven't seen anything like that on it. I will have another look again tomorrow to see if I can see any damage further down that might result in this. Will take some photo's. The pigeons stripped it so that is was bare nearly last year. Maybe they are not at fault, but its struggling with something
I thought I would update on this. Again last year, the pigeons ate any new leaves as they came through and low and behold again this year that section has pretty much died. so I'm now down to about a quarter of the shrub that was there when I moved in.
Bizarrely this year they have left it completely alone so last years shoots are in full leaf. Will it flower do you think ?
PS the pigeons took on the privet hedge down the end of the garden this year... grr but not so much of an issue, they are fed up with this now too. phew.
