Cloudy /Dusty Conifer

I have a Large Conifer in my garden and today I noticed pink/red heather like flowers on it , which I have never seen before, but my main concern is that when I touched and shook  the tree a cloud of ' dust ' came from it. Can anyone tell me what and why this is ? Thanks in advance !

    No, I only know this because my college tutor showed us all the other day, her said he'd never seen so many flowers (if you can call them that) and pollen come off that conifer before image

    I thought my neighbour was having a bonfire today but it turned out that it was the pollen drifting across from my conifer and I have never noticed it happening before.

    It must be due to the weather or something! I've never noticed any before this year...Not complaining though, it brightens up and fairly ugly plant (in my opinion image)
