This morning, I thought the postman had gone insane. It sounded like he was pushing through god knew what through my letterbox. When I checked some minutes later (still in bed when it happened) I found that he had pressed my new Magnolia through the letterbox. Luckily it had survived the treatment. Now I need to plant it before the weekend is over (Spent today in Kew Gardens so no time). Would it be able to live in a big pot for some time? Not sure where to plant it and in me meanwhile a pot is probably better than nothing.
I'm doing some forum necromancy here. The new magnolia is now flowering but it still doesn't look right. I thought the ''red lucky' would be much more red than this. This is a link to the website and it is very different in colour https://www.thompson-morgan.com/p/magnolia-red-lucky-patio-standard/t10587TM
I’ve got a red lucky with buds on - I’ll take a pic when they open. From memory mine are much redder, and the red covers more of the flower base than the one you have. Shame its taken six years to find this out
Wonder what the T&M reaction will be this time
And, out of interest, how is the first one (?yellow river) faring now?
These mistakes do happen, it seems, perhaps you have a sport and you are the proud/annoyed owner of a new type of lucky. I ordered a ‘Crimson Shower’ rose from David Austin. As in Crimson. Red. It flowered very pale pink, almost white. They sent me another. It too was very pale pink. They sent me a different rose of my choice by way of apology. Three roses for the price of one, very generous indeed! I am waiting with interest to see if Crimson Shower is pale pink or red this year and am to report back to DA.
