Lawn problems
Hi all, I am hoping to get some advice on a troublesome lawn of mine. I completely re-landscaped my bomb site of a London garden about 5 years ago, making a patio and a raised area (approx 5m x 5m) that I turfed with lawn. The lawn seemed to fare well for the first year despite having some trouble bedding in. However after several winters the grass has been dying off especially round the edges near to the wall and railway sleepers. Maybe it hasn't helped that I have been cutting it with a strimmer.
During that time I have heavily reseeded and aerated the lawn, but the seed refuses to grow. In that time I have had a lot of weeds coming through, to the extent that I put down some feed and weed killer which had the exact opposite effect - the grass died and the weeds have continued to flourish. After this last winter I am now left with a patch that is mostly weeds and a heavy covering of moss - this afternoon I dug up about a half a bin bag of weeds.
I now have to decide whether I should properly reseed the entire lawn with fertiliser included, returf at great expense or give up and pave it. I would dearly love to have a decent, fairly low maintenance lawn but the i'm worried the soil and part shade are not compatible.
Any advice on how to get a decent lawn would be greatly appreciated.

I know it's possible to buy seed that copes well with more shady areas but I've never tried it. Other than that I don't know, but there are people on the forum far more knowledgeable than me.
