Hello,

Now that we finally have more friendly weather and temperatures are on the rise, I was wondering whether it is the right time to get in the spring outside mood.

I housed two chestnut trees and a cala lily over winter inside and am wondering if it is the right time to put them outside - or will it be too early?

The chestnut trees were "planted" by squirrels in our garden last year and I decided to further grow them in pots. I have applied slow release fertilizer last weekend.

We are in South-East England.

    The chestnuts will be fine outside. I think they would be too warm inside.

    Calla lily will suffer from frost and should stay inside for now.

    Try putting them outside for the day but bringing them back into shelter at night - cold  greenhouse, garage or shed to protect against any frost or just wide changes of temperature.  After two or three weeks the trees will be hardened off enough to stay outside.  The calla lily will need protectin till late frosts are over in May.

    I did not put any of them out yet and I am glad having received your advise.

    We will get minus tempereatures at night over the weekend!

    I have Cala lily out all the time. Has been ravaged by winds and slugs alas but no frost damage! They are half hardy so should be OK out now, after this weekends planned frosts. I suspect the frost will be light as we all have 12 hours sun light now.
