figs bag or pit

Hi all ,i thought id pass this info on to anyone interested in figs,i wanted to know how the root bags compare to the fig pit,so i asked the main man  Stephen at Reads Nursery's, here is his answer These are good for several years, a lot depends on the soil type also. The main aim of the bag is to prevent excessive growth to get the tree fruiting, after that it is not so essential. In a few years ... 5-6 ? the fig will often break through , if it is essential to keep the tree small - use paving slabs to restict it. Hope this is useful.image Alan

I agree with that as well Alan. If you can get cheap slabs from b and q they will last much longer
