A lot of leaves take a while to rot down-that is why people bag them up separately-it might take longer than a year to get leaf mould

I would use the bin for a mixture of garden waste with some leaves but still bag the majority of the leaves separately

Alan- you can use it as a soil conditioner, some use it as part of a potting mix, I just use it as a mulch on the flower beds -or in the bottom of the bean trench

We moved to a new garden last autumn.  I collected up the leaves from the two mature ash trees and bagged them up in bin bags and made holes in them and stacked them in a corner.  Then, this summer when we'd got around to making a proper compost heap, I used the semi-decomposed leaves in layers as we added lawn clippings, guinea pig poo, cabbage leaves and tea bags etc to the compost heap.  It's made fantastic compost so I shall do the same this year image
