Running before I can walk and need some help!!

Silly me, I appear to have bought quite a few bulbs/bare root plants that I don't really know what to do with and could with some advice please.  They are all plants I like, or that have been discussed on here and I thought I would try and grow in my new borders, here is what I have:

Geraniums - 3 types free from GW mag

Hostas - Mixed 1 (bare roots with shoots on)

Iris - Germanica mixed one

Iris - another variety

Gladioli - 4 different varieties

I don't know whether they can all just be put in the ground now, or whether to put them in pots or even whether they are actually best grown in planters and not in the ground at all???

How big are the geraniums?  If they're a reasonable size and the bed is well prepared you could plant them out now - otherwise I'd put them in pots for a bit of tlc.

The hosta I would definitely start off in a pot.

The iris germanica I'd plant in the bed.

Can we find out more about the second iris?  What does it look like at the moment?

As for the gladioli - I'd plant them in the bed now.

Thanks Dove, the Geraniums are tiny bare root plants that I have been keeping moist and cool.  I am going to put them in pots.

The other Iris is called Blue Magic - 25 bulbs that look similar to the other Iris I got but different colour.  I am thinking I could maybe put them in a planter and it will make a lovely display?

Iris Blue Magic is a Dutch-type, the sort you buy in a florist's shop - they'll be ok in a planter, but as they're quite tall I think they'd be better planted direct in the ground - info here http://www.shootgardening.co.uk/plant/iris-blue-magic image

Awww thanks Dove, I've just been having a look on-line but the various sites are so confusing and tell me to plant in Autumn and yet the packet tells me to plant now!  It says they grow to about 50-60 cms so I will put them in the garden and great a display there image

It looks like I'm going to be busy planting lots of bulbs on Saturday morning, up and out at 7 to get it all done image

They could've gone in in the autumn, and they'd have flowered earlier - planting now just means a later display.  You can leave them in over the winter and you'll get blooms a bit earlier next year. image

    Thank you image

Gosh, so much to learn and I haven't even started on the annual seeds and vegetables yet!!

It's all going in my notebook so I won't have to ask again next year image

Not sure if anyone is around, but quick question....my geraniums that I have planted in pots for TLC, do they need keeping inside or are they ok outside?
