Dead Daphne
Does anyone know why my daphnes are dying one after the other. It flowered beautifully then the leaves on the first to die started to shrivel I watered it and then when it the leaves continued to shrivel I fed it but it still died at the end of summer last year. It was about 5 years old and quite large. The one that now appears to be dying flowered beautifully and is also now has shriveling leaves.

I really can't tell from the info you have supplied, sorry!
Have a read of this and see if it rings any bells;

I had a Daphne mezereum that was about 7 years old and it had always flowered moderately, then one year it was smothered in masses of flowers and I was so pleased with it. Then suddenly when the flowers died off the leaves started to go yellow and within a week they had all dropped off and it was dead. I could not believe it. It was as if it had used up all it's energy and gave up the ghost. I searched online and found that they are prone to just suddenly going, even plants like mine that appear to be in excellent health. I think it was a virus of some sort. Hope yours don't do the same.
Mine has just died as well. It was only planted last year and started off this spring with masses of flowers. Then the leaves yellowed, wilted, fell off and my daphne is no more.
once established daphnes are extremely drought tolerant, they also do not like being fed. here in reno nv.where it is very dry indeed mine are watered once a summer one of them is 30 years old and ten feet across-they really thrive on neglect
I bought a daphne in a pot, the garden centre said never disturb the roots, break the pot when you repot it rather than pull it out. So put it in a bit pot so you do not have to keep disturbing it.....which I did. Another 'expert' said they like being in small pots, dont put it in a big one. It flowered, then had some new leaves at the ends of the branches, then they shrivelled and died.. Not sure what to do now, whether to wait and see. put it in the garden and forget about it or burn it!!
