Sowing bedding pansies

in Plants
Hello all, I usually buy plugs of pansy can can for summer bedding but would like to try it from seed, have I left it too late? If not do I sow them indoors, in a cold frame or in pots outside?

I would suggest sowing them in a coldframe outside now
Pansies are made of tough stuff
Thanks Mattbeer87
Also, can anyone explain to me why pansies are labelled as hardy perennials but never come back?
After a season Pansies tend to become a bit leggy and straggly, this is why they are sold as annual bedding plants.
Though if you cut them back regularly during the growing season you can extend their lives.
You can always collect and save seed from them and sow for the following season. And as Matt said if you cut them back they become more bushy rather than leggy.
I am limited for space if I sow the pansies in my mini greenhouse will they do ok as I may have a go and see how they do. Will they germinate in these temps
I love the frilly varieties like can can and frizzle sizzle but quite pricey seeds, do they set seed and if I collect it would they come true?
