Just had 2 days of sunshine but also more showers here in Bristol
I appreciate that its pointless sowing in water logged or saturated soil

The main suggestion I keep seeing is to cover the ground with plastic sheeting for a couple of weeks to allow it to dry out. Also the magazines list some things that you can start off in modules, most things that don't have tap roots, can be done this way
I remember one TV or maybe radio gardener saying if it's too cold and wet to sit on the soil with your bare bum it's too cold to sow seeds.
Be patient. Seeds will germinate and grow way fast enough when the conditions are right. Do it too soon and you'll just have to do it again because your seeds or seedlings will struggle and fail.
There's a theory that this is the way farmers used to tell if the ground was fit to sow the corn - well, coming from a farming family, and knowing several farmers quite well, all I can say is, "Thank the heavens for the existence of modern Agronomists so that we are now spared from that sight when travelling around the countryside!"

Someone else had a similar thread and I'd suggested the same as Fleurisa. Difficult if it's a large area though.
