Pruning help

I've got a large, well established Strawberry Tree in the garden, which has been more exposed to coastal winds since next door had to remove their garage.  It's now distinctly one-sided (the tree, that is, not the garage).  Can anyone give me any tips on how best to prune it to try to get it more balanced and also a bit shorter, and also when to prune?  I've seen plenty of information on pruning in general, but nothing specific about this type of tree.

Thanks to all!

  • Henry, you can safely cut it back to about 4ft. It will take a year to look good, but just go for it.Cut it just above a viable leaf node.
