Potato tree

I planted what I believe is a Chilean potato tree next to a James Greive apple tree. During the past two years it has flowered really well but it appears to have killed the apple tree. I have experienced problems with burrowing rats amongst the roots of the apple tree which may also be the cause of the problem. Does anyone have any comments or advice on this please.

If you're talking about Solanum crispum it won't kill an apple tree unless it totally covers it in growth so that the apple leaves can't find the sun.
