rhubarb

right,,, now we didnt bring any rhubarb with us so its a new ruby patch were doing,big and bold cus we love it, Right im, east coastal ,i know how to do it all but wot sort to start us off with,  basic or the new types that iv heard of ,has anyone got any tried and happy with ruby, name that rhubarb please hers hoping image Alan

  • We've moved house recently. I split my 2 rhubarb plants (timperley early and victoria) to bring some with us. I have now discovered 2 plants already here. So there will be plenty of crumble this year!! 

    Can recommend both timperley early and Victoria, but didn't notice a significant difference between them, although they were in quite a shady spot before moving, so don't know if they will perform differently in their new location.

    right then a mix of sunshine, Victoria and timperley early, load of manure a couple o years crumble by the barrow load no worries,image

  • I have Raspberry Red in pots. Doesn't need forcing. Great cropper and gives us a good crumble right up to the first frosts image

  • I bought timperly last. Autumn hoping would get lots of tasty rhubarb instead of the giant wooden sticks from my allotment which all seem to end up going sappy with little beads of sticky stuff at the bottom. In Scotland at the foot of the cairn o mount mountain  and with a rich but sticky red clay soil, i have  dug in plenty of compost and composted manure so I hope this will work. Everyone says rhubarb is easy to grow,well yes it is but  I never seem to get a good crop. Given up the allotment a d now have a 3 deep bed micro lot with room for some potatoes I have my fingers crossed.

    Ive got Champagne Rhubarb..... lovely stuff, with sticks about 3 feet long, lots of juice and makes superb wine! Really robust plants about 4 feet across. A mix of red and green stalks so you can choose what colour you want too.
