ants

how do i prevent ants invading my compost bin last year i couldnt use a bin full ofcompost as there was so many ants and i already have too many ants nests in the garden borders disturbing the plants roots and soil

    Keep it wet. In dry weather turn it out, throw it back in, and wet it as you go.

     Ants like dry undisturbed soil.

    they don't like being in the wet, so if you keep your heap moist they won't invade it

  • Ants, like most of us, like their homes to be dry and undisturbed - if you have ants in your compost bin that indicates that the compost is too dry and not aerated (stirred around) frequently enough. image
